About Galerie Plein Aire
Galerie Plein Aire

Welcome to Galerie Plein Aire in the heart of Carmel, California, one of the most scenic places in the world. Perhaps you will meet our mascot Jake at our front door, or on the couch in the Gallery.

Galerie Plein Aire was founded in 1998 to promote a group of plein air painters from Monterey Bay California, known as the "Informalist" The group of six first formed after weekly meetings in a local coffee shop to discuss where to paint that day. After their first show, at Pacific Grove Art Center in 1997, Cyndra and Jeff decided to look for a gallery location in which to promote the "Informalists". after finding a small gallery space, set back from Dolores street. Galerie Plein Aire was opened in the spring of 1998.

After eleven successful years, all of the original members are now full time artists and are members of the  prestigious Carmel Art Association.

Galerie Plein Aire moved to the street front location May 2009, We now have three times the space and window viewing on Dolores Street.

The gallery now  shows work by owners Jeff Daniel Smith and Cyndra Bradford, also Cyndra's late father Howard Bradford and Gerard Martin.
